JAZZ BAND COREQUISITE
All incoming jazz band students must take marching band/concert band for two years.
Marching Band and Concert Band focuses on music fundamentals.
FHS Teachers will have more time to help students develop their instrument technique, tone, breath support, music theory, etc.
Students need to have a strong grasp of music fundamentals to execute more advanced concepts.
Jazz bands focus on advanced concepts, such as improvisation over complex chord changes, articulation, and mastering different grooves.
Competitive jazz band programs have their students participate in both a large ensemble and a jazz ensemble.
Marching Band is the place for music students to build community with their peers!
We believe in high standards but it’s not just about winning and accolades. We value the social and emotional development of our music students as well.
Students play more cohesively when they have more opportunities to collaborate through music.
Our FHS counselors have always figured out a way for students to do both jazz and marching band along with extracurricular activities. We have music students who are in sports, theater, two music classes, and more.
